Analog Mixed-Signal IC Design Engineer (Data Converters) - TeraWave
Blue OriginJob Title
Analog Mixed-Signal IC Design Engineer (Data Converters) - TeraWave
Role Summary
Lead IC design and integration of high-speed ADCs and DACs for Blue Origin's TeraWave satellite communications program. Collaborate with system architects, validation, layout, and product teams to deliver tape-out-ready mixed-signal designs in advanced FinFET processes.
Role is based onsite in San Diego, CA or Cupertino, CA (temporary remote exception while San Diego site is developed). Relocation provided; travel expected up to 10%; interviews include a technical assessment.
Experience Level
Senior - requires 10+ years of industry experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities focus on architecture, design, verification, and integration of high-performance data converters and supporting analog functions.
- Lead architecture, development, and integration of high-speed ADCs and DACs in advanced FinFET CMOS technologies.
- Develop high-level behavioral models (MATLAB, Simulink, SystemVerilog-AMS) to validate system performance before circuit implementation.
- Use Spectre and mixed-signal flows to design and verify high-performance circuits and systems.
- Define block-level performance and interface requirements with system architects for RF payload and terminal integration.
- Oversee layout, top-level integration, floorplanning, and verification through tape-out cycles.
- Work with validation and product engineers to create test plans, support bring-up, and optimize performance and yield.
- Investigate and implement analog building blocks and mentor junior engineers on analog design best practices.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, security eligibility, and practical experience.
- 10+ years of industry experience in analog/mixed-signal IC design.
- Proven experience designing high-speed ADCs and/or DACs in FinFET processes.
- Experience designing SerDes for high-speed data converters.
- Familiarity with ADC architectures and techniques (SAR, pipeline, TDC, delta-sigma), interleaved sampling, RF, and sub-sampling.
- Understanding of digital calibration algorithms for converter impairments.
- Proficiency with MATLAB, Spectre, SystemVerilog, and AMS tool flows.
- Deep understanding of electromigration and layout-dependent effects in advanced FinFET technologies.
- Extensive silicon characterization, debugging, and bring-up experience.
- Strong background in analog/RF building blocks: amplifiers, filters, oscillators, reference generation, and LDOs.
- Experience leading chip design efforts and coordinating cross-functional teams to achieve tape-out.
- Must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, U.S. permanent resident (Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum (export control requirement).
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline is required. MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering or related fields is preferred. The posting allows equivalent combinations of industry experience and PhD research; equivalent practical experience may be accepted.
