Job Title
Analog/Mixed-Signal IC Design Engineer — Acacia (Hybrid)
Role Summary
Work on the Acacia mixed-signal team to design high-speed analog and mixed-signal CMOS circuits for optical transceivers used in data center and telecom networks (100G–1.6T+). The role covers architecture, circuit design, layout, silicon validation and productization of ultra-deep sub-micron CMOS ICs.
The position is hybrid with on-site work in San Jose and requires collaboration with digital/DSP, system, package and module teams to meet signal and power integrity and production requirements.
Experience Level
Senior — typical experience expectations: B.S. +8 years, M.S. +6 years, or Ph.D. +3 years of relevant experience.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Architect, design, simulate, layout and validate high-speed analog/mixed-signal IC blocks for optical transceivers.
- Lead design efforts for large blocks, mentor junior engineers, and track deliverables through tape-out and production.
- Perform peer design reviews and establish robust design methodology from concept to production.
- Collaborate with digital/DSP, packaging, hardware and system teams to meet signal and power integrity specifications.
- Develop test plans, oversee lab validation and characterize silicon across PVT conditions.
- Ensure designs meet manufacturability, reliability and ESD requirements.
Requirements
Must-have and preferred technical skills:
-
Must-have: Experience designing, simulating and measuring high-speed ICs in at least three of the following areas: high-speed serial links (SERDES, serializers/deserializers, data converters), system link modeling, high-performance output drivers, high-performance PLLs, efficient clock transmission/propagation, op amps and programmable gain amplifiers, and equalization techniques.
-
Must-have: Proven record of taking mixed-signal blocks from concept through layout and silicon bring-up to production.
-
Nice-to-have: Experience with FinFET or GAA process technologies and high-frequency layout (floorplanning, power/ground, analog/digital routing, passive components).
-
Nice-to-have: Design-for-manufacturability practices including PVT characterization, electromigration analysis, self-heating and IR drop analysis.
-
Nice-to-have: Laboratory validation experience (ESD practices, test setups) and familiarity with tools such as Cadence Virtuoso, Spectre/APS/SpectreX, Calibre, EMX, mixed-signal AMS simulators and MATLAB.
Education Requirements
Minimum qualifications: Bachelor's degree plus 8 years of related experience, Master's degree plus 6 years, or PhD plus 3 years of related experience. Equivalent practical experience is acceptable. The posting did not specify a required field of study or certifications.
