Analog/Mixed-Signal IC Design Engineer — Acacia (Hybrid)
Role Summary
Member of the Acacia mixed-signal IC design team responsible for architecting, designing, laying out, measuring and productizing ultra-deep-submicron CMOS analog and mixed-signal circuits for high-speed optical transceivers (100G–1.6T+).
The role works cross-functionally with digital/DSP, system, package and module teams, and focuses on delivering robust production-quality AMS blocks that meet signal and power integrity requirements. This is a hybrid position with on-site work in San Jose, CA several days per week.
Experience Level
Senior — requires significant industry experience (see Education Requirements for degree/experience equivalencies).
Responsibilities
The main responsibilities include leading and delivering complex AMS IP blocks from concept through production and collaborating with adjacent teams to meet system requirements.
- Architect, design, simulate, layout, verify and productize high-speed analog/mixed-signal IC blocks.
- Lead design efforts for large blocks on complex chips, track deliverables, and mentor junior engineers.
- Participate in peer reviews and define/check design methodology and documentation.
- Collaborate with packaging and hardware teams to ensure signal and power integrity across package/module/system.
- Develop and execute lab validation, measurement and characterization plans for silicon.
- Address manufacturability concerns including PVT characterization, electromigration, self-heating and IR drop analysis.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience (minimum expectations):
- Proven experience in design, simulation and measurement of high-speed ICs, including at least three of the following areas: serializers/deserializers and data converters, modeling for system link simulations, high-performance output drivers, phase-locked loops, efficient clock transmission/propagation, opamps/programmable gain amplifiers, and equalization techniques.
- Experience with high-frequency layout and floorplanning for mixed-signal designs (power/ground, digital/analog routing, passives and transmission lines).
- Hands-on lab experience for validation and test setup construction, including ESD practices.
- Experience with industry-standard design and simulation tools (examples: Cadence Virtuoso, Spectre/APS/SpectreX, Calibre, EMX, AMS mixed-signal simulations, MATLAB).
Nice-to-have / Preferred:
- Experience with electrical transceiver applications (backplane and cable communications).
- Experience with FinFET and GAA process technologies.
- Experience in design-for-manufacturability and advanced characterization methodologies.
Education Requirements
Minimum: Bachelor's degree plus 8 years related experience, Master's degree plus 6 years related experience, or PhD plus 3 years related experience. (Degrees or equivalent practical experience required per the above equivalencies.)
