Analog Layout Design Engineer
AlteraJob Title
Analog Layout Design Engineer
Role Summary
Design and verify complex analog block layouts to meet electrical, performance, and manufacturability requirements. Work with analog circuit designers, process technology, and package teams to plan layouts, resolve trade-offs, and deliver high-quality analog blocks for IC/SoC projects.
Experience Level
Mid-level - approximately 3+ years of relevant analog layout experience expected.
Responsibilities
Primary duties include:
- Design complex analog block layouts, including micro-floorplanning and detailed signal routing to meet shielding, matching, and performance targets.
- Plan and implement floorplans, power grids, bumps, and ESD structures for analog blocks.
- Run and analyze layout verification and reliability flows: process design-rule checks, electromigration, IR/voltage-drop, and ESD verification.
- Optimize layouts for area, power, variability, and performance.
- Develop and drive improvements to analog layout methodologies, flows, and automation to increase productivity and quality.
- Collaborate with circuit design, process technology, and package teams to meet specifications and negotiate layout trade-offs.
- Troubleshoot design issues and tool/flow/methodology problems affecting analog layout.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience:
- Proven analog layout design and verification experience (see Education Requirements for degree guidance).
- Experience running and interpreting verification and reliability checks (DRC, electromigration, IR/voltage drop, ESD).
- Ability to design and analyze floorplans, power grids, bumps, and ESD protection structures.
- Strong signal planning for shielding, matching, and critical nets.
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams (circuit, process, package).
- Strong problem-solving skills to debug design and tool/flow issues.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience developing layout methodologies and automation.
- Experience with mixed-signal integration, packaging considerations, or SoC-level analog integration.
Education Requirements
B.Tech or M.Tech in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, VLSI, or a related engineering field. The posting specifies BTech/MTech and expects approximately 3+ years of relevant experience.
