Job Title

Analog Layout Design Engineer

Role Summary

The Analog Layout Design Engineer designs, implements, and verifies analog circuit layouts to meet performance, reliability, power, and area targets. The role collaborates with circuit designers, structural design teams, and verification teams to deliver analog blocks for advanced semiconductor products.

Work is currently virtual in Canada; the position focuses on layout planning, verification, reliability checks, and methodology improvements for analog circuits.

Experience Level

Mid-level. Typical hiring targets engineers with hands-on analog layout experience; see Education Requirements for degree-and-experience mapping.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include detailed analog layout design and verification, planning, and cross-functional collaboration.

  • Design complex analog signal-circuit layouts from specifications.
  • Perform microfloor planning, detailed signal planning, and layout optimization for area, power, reliability, and performance.
  • Execute layout verification and reliability analysis (DRC, electromigration, IR drop, ESD checks).
  • Develop and verify floorplans, power grids, ESD structures, and bumps for analog blocks.
  • Troubleshoot issues in design, tools, flows, and methodologies.
  • Drive and implement improved analog layout methodologies and productivity enhancements.
  • Collaborate with circuit designers and cross-functional teams to meet specs and tradeoffs.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills, tools knowledge, and work-location expectation; preferred items listed separately.

  • Practical experience in analog layout design and verification (hands-on implementation and signoff experience).
  • Proficiency with industry tools such as Cadence Virtuoso and Calibre.
  • Understanding of process design rules, ESD structures, reliability checks, and analog performance optimization.
  • Experience with power-grid and floorplan analysis for analog circuits.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for design flows, tools, and methodologies.
  • Effective communication and ability to work across cross-functional teams.
  • Must live and work in Canada for the duration of employment (role is posted for Virtual Canada).

Education Requirements

Required: Bachelor's (BS) in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related technical field. Hiring criteria specify degree-based experience mapping: with a Bachelor’s degree, typically 2+ years of analog layout experience; with a Master’s degree, typically 1+ year; PhD holders may be considered with no prior experience required. "Related field" is accepted where appropriate.
