Role Summary

The role is to implement analog and mixed-signal IC layouts in advanced nanometer CMOS for custom mixed-signal ASIC products. The position sits on the Edinburgh Analog/Mixed-Signal design team and works closely with circuit designers.

Responsibilities

Core responsibilities include technical implementation, ownership of layout flows, and coordination for tapeout.

• Implement analog and mixed-signal layouts for nanometer CMOS processes.
• Work closely with circuit designers to translate schematics into layout.
• Plan and organise layout schedules, floorplans and top-level assembly for tapeout.
• Ensure tapeout processes and physical verification are followed correctly.
• Lead layout of analog top-levels and large mixed-signal IPs.
• Supervise and coordinate local and remote layout resources.
• Train and mentor junior layout engineers and promote best-practice layout methodologies.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and domain experience.

• Strong experience laying out mixed-signal analog blocks (ADCs, PGAs, DACs, filters, drivers, power management, clocking).
• Proven experience in advanced nanometer CMOS layout.
• Experience leading layout of analog top levels and large analog/mixed-signal IPs.
• Strong knowledge of physical layout and physical verification flows and methodologies (e.g., Cadence Virtuoso Layout-XL, Mentor Graphics Calibre), including high-voltage verification techniques.
• Ability to work effectively with distributed (local and remote) teams and drive consistent layout practices across teams.
• Nice-to-have: SKILL scripting and general-purpose scripting (Perl/Python), Calibre SRVF, and familiarity with small digital block place-and-route.

Education Requirements

B.Eng or M.Sc in Electronic Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
