Analog IC Design Engineer, Tech Lead
LightmatterJob Title
Analog IC Design Engineer, Tech Lead
Role Summary
Lead analog/mixed-signal design efforts for high-speed transceivers and broadband circuits that interface with silicon photonics. Work with system architects, digital designers, and photonics engineers to define block-level specifications, validate designs in simulation and lab, and guide integration into product silicon.
Experience Level
Senior-level engineering role (tech lead). Requires extensive industry experience in GHz‑speed RF or broadband analog design.
Responsibilities
The role combines hands-on analog circuit design, cross-functional leadership, verification, and lab validation.
- Design high-performance AMS circuits for transceivers and broadband interfaces to silicon photonics.
- Evaluate and develop analog/mixed-signal topologies in collaboration with chip architects.
- Drive block-level specifications, mixed-signal implementations, and behavioral models across system, digital, analog, and photonics teams.
- Prepare documentation, simulations, and verification artifacts for formal design reviews.
- Lead block-level floorplanning and mask-view reviews; run post-layout and top-level mixed-signal simulations.
- Define production and bench-level test plans and validate circuit performance in the lab.
- Mentor and provide technical leadership to junior design engineers.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items listed separately.
- Proven experience designing GHz-speed RF or broadband analog circuits and Analog-Front-End blocks for SerDes.
- Deep understanding of Tx/Rx equalization techniques and related circuit implementations.
- Strong knowledge of CMOS device behavior, noise, linearity, and high-frequency circuit trade-offs.
- Experience with analog/mixed-signal modeling and performance evaluation (SystemVerilog, Matlab, Python, Verilog‑AMS).
- Experience with 3D electromagnetic (EM) simulation tools and interpreting results for circuit design.
- Proven track record working with system and architecture teams to derive block- and IP-level requirements.
- Prior experience leading design efforts and mentoring junior engineers; strong collaboration skills across functional areas.
- Ability to validate circuit performance in the lab and develop production test plans.
- Ability to comply with U.S. export control requirements where applicable.
Education Requirements
MS with 12+ years of industry experience, OR Ph.D. with 10+ years of industry experience designing GHz‑speed RF or GHz‑speed broadband analog circuits.
