Analog Design Staff Engineer
SynopsysJob Title
Analog Design Staff Engineer
Role Summary
Design and deliver analog and mixed-signal building blocks for SerDes IP, from transistor-level design through layout and electrical characterization. Work within the Solutions Group, collaborating with digital RTL engineers and cross-functional teams to meet power, area, performance, and reliability targets for silicon-proven IP.
Experience Level
Senior. Requires advanced analog design experience; see Education Requirements for stated degree and years of experience.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include design, verification, layout oversight, and handoff for analog/mixed-signal blocks used in SerDes IP.
- Ensure analog sub-blocks meet SerDes standards and architecture specifications.
- Identify and refine circuit implementations to meet power, area, and performance targets.
- Propose efficient design and verification strategies using simulator features.
- Oversee physical layout to minimize parasitics, device stress, and process variation effects.
- Collaborate with digital RTL engineers on verification of calibration, adaptation, and control algorithms.
- Present simulation results for internal and customer review.
- Own analog/mixed-signal blocks through design, documentation, and test-plan development.
- Support electrical characterization and integration of circuits within SerDes IP products.
Requirements
Technical skills and domain experience required to perform the role.
- Must-have: Transistor-level circuit design knowledge for analog and mixed-signal building blocks; silicon-proven implementation experience; proficiency with EDA tools for schematic entry, physical layout, and design verification; experience with SPICE simulators and analog simulation methods; Verilog-A for behavioral modeling; CMOS layout optimization to reduce parasitics and mismatch; awareness of ESD and design-for-reliability issues.
- Nice-to-have: Experience with SerDes sub-circuits (equalizers, data samplers, drivers, serializers/deserializers, VCO, PI, DLL/PLL, bandgap, ADC/DAC); scripting/programming skills (TCL, Perl, C, Python, MATLAB).
Education Requirements
MSc in Electrical Engineering or a related field, with 4+ years of SerDes / high-speed analog design experience (as stated in the posting).
