Job Title
Analog Design Sr. Staff Engineer
Role Summary
Senior analog circuit designer responsible for architecture, transistor-level design, verification, and post-silicon improvement of high-speed Multi-Gbps NRZ and PAM4 SerDes IP.
Work with a cross-functional Interface IP team in Mississauga to deliver robust, high-performance SerDes IP for networking, data center, and AI applications.
Experience Level
Senior-level. See Education Requirements for degree and years guidance.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include designing and validating high-speed SerDes transceivers and supporting cross-functional development and characterization.
- Review SerDes standards and define transceiver architectures and analog sub-block specifications for NRZ and PAM4.
- Develop transistor-level circuit solutions to optimize power, area, speed, and silicon robustness.
- Collaborate with analog, digital, layout, verification, and system teams through design and implementation.
- Guide physical layout to minimize parasitics, device stress, and process variation impacts.
- Define and execute simulation-based design and verification strategies using industry-standard tools.
- Support electrical characterization, analyze silicon data, and drive post-silicon improvements.
- Document design features, test plans, and results; present technical tradeoffs to stakeholders and customers.
- Develop automation and tooling to improve productivity and quality.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience. Degree requirements are listed under Education Requirements.
- Strong background in circuit and system modeling, analog design, DSP, and communications theory.
- Proven experience with Multi-Gbps SerDes architectures: TX/RX, equalizers, samplers, drivers, serializers/deserializers, PLLs/DLLs, and associated analog blocks.
- Experience with analog/digital co-design, calibration, adaptation, and timing handoff.
- Familiarity with ESD design, custom high-speed digital logic, and reliability considerations (EM, IR, aging, self-heating).
- Proficiency in schematic entry, physical layout practices, SPICE simulation, and Verilog-A modeling.
- Strong understanding of jitter, noise, signal integrity, parasitics, and crosstalk.
- Excellent communication, documentation, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor team members and lead technical decisions.
Education Requirements
M.A.Sc. with 8+ years or PhD with 6+ years of relevant analog/mixed-signal IC design experience. Preferred fields include analog/mixed-signal IC design, electrical/electronic engineering, or related technical disciplines.
