Analog Design Intern
Role Summary
This internship sits in the Signal Integrity Products group at Semtech's Ottawa Design Centre. The intern will support design, verification, and characterization of high-speed analog and mixed-signal circuits used in data communications products.
The role provides hands-on experience with transistor-level design, CAD tools, and scripting, with mentoring from senior designers during a 12–16 month term.

Entry-level internship (student). Desired start date May 2027. Term: 12–16 months.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities during the internship include:
- Design, develop, verify and characterize analog and mixed-signal circuits (examples: phase-locked loops, equalizers, optical and cable receivers and drivers).
- Work with BiCMOS and CMOS process technologies for circuit implementation.
- Use CAD tools for schematic/layout/simulation and participate in circuit verification and validation.
- Develop and maintain scripts for IC design and validation automation (e.g., Python, Skill, TCL).
- Collaborate with senior designers and participate in lab characterization activities as required.
Requirements
Must-have and preferred qualifications:
- Must-have: Good understanding of analog electronic circuit fundamentals; ability to learn quickly and work independently or in a team.
- Must-have: Availability for a 12–16 month internship starting around May 2027 (desired).
- Nice-to-have: Exposure to transistor-level circuit design or analysis.
- Nice-to-have: Exposure to CAD circuit design tools (for example, Cadence Virtuoso).
- Nice-to-have: Experience with Python or scripting environments such as MATLAB; experience with Skill or TCL is an asset.
- Nice-to-have: Familiarity with layout, simulation workflows, and characterization methods for high-speed analog ICs.
