Analog Design Engineer Intern
Role Summary
Work with Semtech's Signal Integrity Products group in Calgary on analog and mixed-signal ICs for high-speed data communications. The intern will contribute to design, simulation, verification and characterization of circuits used in optical and cable receivers, drivers, PLLs and equalizers.
Experience Level
Entry-level internship. Expected term 12–16 months with a desired start date of May 2027.
Responsibilities
The intern will be integrated into the design team and assigned progressively complex tasks. Typical responsibilities include:
- Design, development, verification and characterization of analog and mixed-signal circuits for data communications products.
- Work on circuits such as phase-locked loops, equalizers, optical and cable receivers and drivers.
- Use BiCMOS and CMOS process design flows and tools for simulation and layout.
- Develop and maintain scripts and automation for IC design and validation using Python, Skill, TCL or similar.
- Collaborate with senior designers and participate in lab characterization and data analysis.
Requirements
Must-have skills and constraints for the internship:
- Good understanding of analog electronic circuit fundamentals.
- Ability to learn quickly and work independently or as part of a team.
- Availability for a 12–16 month internship term starting around May 2027.
Nice-to-have / beneficial experience:
- Exposure to transistor-level circuit design and analysis.
- Familiarity with CAD circuit design tools (for example, Cadence Virtuoso).
- Experience with Matlab and/or scripting languages such as Python; experience with Skill or TCL is a plus.
- Experience with high-speed analog building blocks and verification/characterization workflows.
Education Requirements
Student status in an engineering or related technical program (internship position). No specific degree listed; relevant fields typically include Electrical/Electronics/Computer Engineering or similar technical disciplines.
