Analog and Mixed-Signal ASIC Design Engineer
BattelleJob Title
Analog and Mixed-Signal ASIC Design Engineer
Role Summary
Design and validate analog and mixed-signal integrated circuits for advanced cybersecurity and embedded computing applications as part of Battelle's Advanced Microsystem Solutions team in Columbus, OH. Work across architecture, circuit design, verification, foundry interaction and silicon bring-up within a multidisciplinary engineering team.
Experience Level
Mid-level - expects several years of practical analog/mixed-signal ASIC design experience (typical hires have multiple years post-degree experience).
Responsibilities
Accountable for end-to-end analog/mixed-signal IC development and for coordinating integration and verification activities with digital and test teams.
- Architect, design and simulate ADCs, DACs, PLLs, amplifiers and other analog blocks; develop transistor-level schematics.
- Perform pre- and post-layout simulation, parasitic extraction, DRC/LVS and reliability verification.
- Integrate analog IP with digital ASIC and FPGA teams and perform mixed-signal system trade studies.
- Interface with semiconductor foundries and process design kits during design and fabrication.
- Develop laboratory test plans and conduct silicon characterization, debugging and bring-up.
- Lead technical efforts, mentor junior engineers and support proposal and IR&D activities.
Requirements
Core technical requirements and clearance/eligibility expectations. Preferred skills listed separately.
- Proven experience designing analog or mixed-signal ICs that reached fabrication and silicon validation.
- Strong understanding of CMOS device physics and analog circuit fundamentals.
- Experience with industry EDA tools such as Virtuoso, Spectre and Calibre; analog schematic capture and simulation; DRC/LVS verification.
- Familiarity with semiconductor foundry processes and PDKs and with parasitic extraction workflows.
- Hands-on laboratory skills for board bring-up and silicon characterization (oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, etc.).
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams; experience mentoring or leading technical tasks.
- Must be a U.S. citizen and eligible for Top-Secret clearance.
Nice-to-have:
- Active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility.
- Experience with Verilog, Verilog-A or SystemVerilog and familiarity with digital ASIC implementation and verification flows.
- Experience with advanced process nodes, radiation-tolerant design, or integrating analog IP into larger SoCs.
- Proficiency in Python, MATLAB or similar scripting for analysis and automation.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field with approximately 3 years of relevant experience; Master's degree with approximately 1 year of experience; or a PhD. Fields include Electrical/Computer Engineering, Physics or other related technical disciplines.
