AMD Test Engineer (Infrastructure / High-Speed I/O Specialty)

Role Summary

Lead architecture, development, and integration of wafer-sort test infrastructure on Advantest V93000 platforms using SmarTest 8. Focus on test program development, validation, and production support for high-speed I/O and die-to-die interfaces.

Work across Product Engineering, Design for Test, Yield, Test Hardware, and Manufacturing to improve test quality, yield, test time, and release readiness for microprocessor and chiplet-based products. Position is based in Austin with a hybrid work arrangement.

Experience Level

Senior - typically 7+ years of semiconductor product-development and ATE test-engineering experience.

Responsibilities

Primary duties include developing, validating, and supporting wafer-sort test infrastructure and leading test enablement for high-speed interfaces.

  • Architect, develop, and integrate Base Test Program and common Test Shell with reusable services, test flows, diagnostics, data collection, and release controls.
  • Lead SmarTest 8 and Advantest V93000 test program development, debug, validation, release readiness, and production support.
  • Define scalable architecture and coding practices to enable reuse across products, derivatives, silicon revisions, test insertions, and manufacturing sites.
  • Lead wafer-sort test strategy, first-silicon bring-up, characterization, margining, screening, diagnostics, and failure isolation for high-speed I/O and die-to-die interfaces.
  • Integrate patterns, vectors, timing, levels, test methods, device configurations, binning, and data-collection/debug capabilities into the common test program.
  • Debug complex interactions among silicon, test software, tester/probe hardware, patterns, timing, and manufacturing processes.
  • Partner with design, DfT, yield, test hardware, and manufacturing teams to identify coverage gaps and resolve product and production risks.
  • Drive improvements in test quality, manufacturing yield, test time, maintainability, correlation, and release discipline; document architectural decisions and mentor engineers.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; nice-to-have items listed separately.

  • Must-have: Extensive Advantest V93000 and SmarTest 8 test program development and debug experience.
  • Must-have: Proficiency in Java and at least one additional language (C++, Python, Perl, or shell scripting).
  • Must-have: Proven experience developing test flows, test methods, patterns/vectors, timing, levels, diagnostics, characterization plans, and manufacturing screens.
  • Must-have: Demonstrated ability to debug hardware, software, device, and manufacturing interactions in wafer-sort or final-test environments.
  • Must-have: Linux/Unix proficiency, including revision control and disciplined software-release practices.
  • Must-have: Experience leading or making significant architectural contributions to a Base Test Program, common Test Shell, or comparable shared ATE infrastructure.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with ORE or comparable offline simulation and offline validation workflows.
  • Nice-to-have: High-speed SerDes PHY validation, margining, link training, equalization, and failure-analysis experience; familiarity with PCI Express, CXL, UCIe, Ethernet, JESD204, USB, DDR, HBM, or similar interfaces.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with bit-error-rate testing, jitter and timing analysis, voltage margining, eye measurements, and correlation across ATE, bench, and system environments.
  • Nice-to-have: Knowledge of chiplet and advanced-packaging test challenges and known-good-die considerations.
  • Experience using AI-enabled tools and developing agentic workflows to improve test-program development, debug, validation, documentation, and engineering productivity.
  • Experience with Jira, Confluence, or comparable platforms for release planning, task tracking, dependency management, and documentation.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with geographically distributed teams.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. The role typically expects seven or more years of semiconductor product-development and ATE test-engineering experience.
