Job Title

AMBA Architect

Role Summary

Design and specify AMBA interfaces and related memory and translation systems for Arm platforms. Work with architects and engineering teams across MMU, interconnect and SoC groups to define interfaces, analyse system behaviour, and support product roadmaps and ecosystem partners.

Part of the Architecture and Technology Group; the role offers autonomy on defined projects and opportunities to grow into broader technical leadership in system architecture and virtualization.

Experience Level

Senior. No years-of-experience specified.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include architecture definition, system evaluation and cross-team collaboration.

  • Contribute to AMBA interface design, focusing on DTI and LTI.
  • Evaluate system behaviour across translation, performance, power and scalability.
  • Collaborate with MMU, interconnect and SoC teams on end-to-end architecture.
  • Assess trade-offs in virtualization, isolation and resource sharing.
  • Produce clear specifications, diagrams and architectural guidelines.
  • Support integration of translation and memory systems across platforms.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; followed by optional advantages.

  • Must-have: Practical experience with AMBA or similar protocols (e.g. CHI, AXI) and awareness of DTI/LTI.
  • Must-have: Strong understanding of computer architecture, especially memory systems, address translation and coherency.
  • Must-have: Familiarity with SMMU or I/O memory management concepts.
  • Must-have: Clear communication of architectural trade-offs and decisions.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with PCIe or CXL and their interaction with memory/translation systems.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with virtualization across CPU, I/O and memory subsystems.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience working in distributed teams.
