Role Summary

Develop and evaluate compiler technology for AI/ML workloads and integrate custom NPUs into AI/ML-compiler frameworks. The role sits in the MLIR-Compiler Team within NXP's AI IP and Solutions group and collaborates with product teams and partners to enable Edge AI solutions on NXP systems.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include improving compiler flows and integrating accelerator hardware into tooling and product workflows.

• Evaluate and develop next-generation compiler technology for AI/ML workloads.
• Analyze, adapt, and extend AI/ML compilation flows (e.g., MLIR, IREE) to meet product requirements.
• Develop integration of custom NPUs into AI/ML-compiler frameworks.
• Integrate adapted compiler frameworks into NXP's AI tooling.
• Align development with business line requirements and coordinate with product teams and partners.
• Monitor state-of-the-art methods and maintain methodological tracking of relevant fields.
• Collaborate closely with NXP partners, business lines, and central organizations.

• Must-have: 1+ years of industry experience in software and hardware engineering using standard development tools (git, unit testing, CI/CD, docker).
• Must-have: Strong programming skills in C++ and Python.
• Must-have: Strong experience with neural processing unit (NPU) design and AI/ML processor architecture.
• Must-have: Affinity and experience with embedded processors, embedded software, machine learning accelerators, and GNU/Linux.
• Must-have: Proven contributions or peer-reviewed publications in embedded machine learning / Edge AI and hardware/software/algo co-design.
• Must-have: Ability to work independently with strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
• Nice-to-have: Practical experience with MLIR, IREE, or similar AI/ML compiler frameworks and integrating them into tooling.
• Nice-to-have: Experience with development boards, benchmarking, and embedding workflows for Edge AI.

Education Requirements

PhD in Computer Science (or closely related field) with significant exposure to Machine Learning, Edge AI, and Embedded Systems. The posting lists a university PhD as the required degree.
