Job Title

AI/ML Camera Lead Engineer

Role Summary

Lead design and delivery of camera and ISP ASIC IP, including micro-architecture, RTL implementation, and handoff to verification and physical design. Also lead GenAI initiatives to accelerate RTL development, review, debug, and verification workflows.

Position sits in the Camera Engineering team in San Diego and combines hands-on hardware engineering with technical leadership of GenAI-for-hardware efforts.

Experience Level

Senior-level. Typical requirements: 6+ years with a Bachelor's degree, 5+ years with a Master's, or 4+ years with a PhD (see Education Requirements for details).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities cover camera/ISP hardware design and development of GenAI tooling and benchmarks for hardware workflows.

  • Define and implement micro-architectures for image and video processing pipelines.
  • Design, implement, and own ASIC IP blocks from architecture through RTL delivery.
  • Develop high-quality RTL in Verilog/SystemVerilog or VHDL.
  • Run synthesis and analyze results to meet performance, power, and area (PPA) targets.
  • Perform CDC, low-power, timing, and design rule checks; support timing closure.
  • Collaborate with design verification and physical design teams on test planning and debug.
  • Create and maintain micro-architecture and design documentation.
  • Define and deliver internal LLM benchmark suite for hardware-design workflows with KPIs and regression tracking.
  • Develop and deploy agentic AI solutions to assist RTL development, review, debug, and verification.
  • Prototype and drive GenAI research directions for hardware and transition successful R&D into internal deployment.
  • Coach and mentor team members and contribute directly to technical execution.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills:

  • Hands-on ASIC RTL design experience.
  • Proficiency in Verilog/SystemVerilog or VHDL.
  • Knowledge of ASIC design flows: synthesis, timing analysis, CDC, and low-power methodologies.
  • Experience with camera/ISP, image processing, video, multimedia, computer vision, or DSP hardware.
  • Proficiency in Python (and/or C++/Java) for tooling, automation, and GenAI evaluation workflows.
  • Practical experience with LLMs, embedding models, or agentic AI systems applied to engineering workflows.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with SystemC or hardware modeling.
  • Prior ASIC implementation of camera or image-processing IP.
  • Experience defining or maintaining benchmarking and evaluation frameworks for ML/LLM systems.
  • Familiarity with agentic AI frameworks or tools used for code generation, review, or analysis.
  • Scripting experience (TCL, Perl, shell) supporting RTL or GenAI flows.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field is expected. Alternatively, a Master's degree with 5+ years of relevant experience or a PhD with 4+ years of relevant experience meets the posted minimums.
