AI GPU Arch Perf Optimization Intern
Intel CorporationJob Title
AI GPU Arch Perf Optimization Intern
Role Summary
The intern will optimize GPU compute kernels and validate GPU architectures using representative AI workloads to inform hardware/software co-design. Work focuses on performance profiling, identifying bottlenecks, and building performance models for GPU and AI accelerator platforms.
This position sits in Intel's Data Center Group (DCG) and provides hands‑on exposure to GPU architecture and performance engineering. The role requires on-site presence.
Experience Level
Entry-level internship. Typical experience: 0–1 years of hands-on experience gained via internships, academic projects, coursework, or training.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include profiling, analysis, and optimization of GPU workloads to support architecture design.
- Analyze and optimize core GPU compute kernels for AI and numerical workloads (e.g., GEMM, Attention, operator fusion).
- Reproduce representative AI inference and training workloads for GPU IP validation.
- Perform GPU performance profiling to identify compute, memory, and pipeline bottlenecks.
- Build performance profiles and models to understand architecture-level behavior.
- Provide kernel- and workload-level insights to support GPU architecture design and hardware/software co-design.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience for immediate contribution; preferred items increase impact.
- Must-have: Proficiency in Python for data analysis, experimentation, or tooling.
- Must-have: Solid understanding of AI fundamentals, common models, and algorithms.
- Must-have: Basic knowledge of computer systems (CPU/GPU architecture, memory systems, performance analysis).
- Must-have: Hands-on exposure to AI or GPU domains via internships, projects, or coursework.
- Preferred: Experience with GPU kernels or programming models (CUDA, OpenCL, SYCL, Triton).
- Preferred: Exposure to performance optimization, compiler technologies, or parallel computing.
- Preferred: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and ability to derive insights from profiling data.
- Preferred: Ability to work effectively in collaborative, cross-functional engineering teams.
Education Requirements
Pursuing a Bachelor's in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field; or pursuing a Master's in those fields with no prior professional experience. The posting targets candidates with 0–1 years of hands-on AI/GPU experience through internships, academic projects, coursework, or training.
