Job Title

AI Developer Intern - Interconnect Hardware Frontend, 2027

Role Summary

Internship on NVIDIA's MSS-Interconnect frontend team to explore and prototype AI-driven improvements for RTL, verification, debug, and design-review workflows. Work with RTL, verification, CAD, and methodology engineers on a global team to take focused AI-for-hardware use cases from idea to working prototype and evaluate tool effectiveness.

Experience Level

Entry-level (Internship). Targeted at current undergraduate or graduate students.

Responsibilities

Deliver a focused prototype and evaluate AI tool suitability for real engineering workflows; collaborate with engineers to refine solutions.

  • Prototype AI-assisted workflows for a hardware frontend problem (RTL, verification, debug, code understanding, or design review) and iterate with end users.
  • Evaluate AI tools, models, and agent capabilities on engineering tasks and document findings.
  • Build small, reusable tools or automation to make workflows faster or more reliable.
  • Partner with hardware engineers to convert pain points into practical AI use cases and refine them based on feedback.
  • Share results and recommendations to inform team decisions on experimentation and investment.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and attributes for the internship.

  • Solid Python and software engineering fundamentals; experience building automation, scripts, or tools.
  • Exposure to hardware frontend workflows (RTL design, verification, debug, or design methodology) via coursework, projects, research, or internships.
  • Practical hardware understanding sufficient to assess technical usefulness of AI-assisted solutions.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and a collaborative, self-driven attitude.

Nice-to-have:

  • Hands-on experience building or using LLM-based tools, agents, or AI-assisted workflows.
  • Familiarity with modern AI tooling and judgment about tool adoption.
  • Coursework, research, or projects in frontend hardware development or debug-intensive workflows.
  • Knowledge of Interconnect, NoC, memory systems, bus-fabrics, or related silicon domains.

Education Requirements

Currently pursuing a BS, MS, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field (students actively enrolled in degree programs).
