Job Title

Advanced Technology Exploration Engineer

Role Summary

Member of the MCU/MPU SoC Implementation organization, within the Advanced Technology Exploration group. The role performs technology exploration and PPA (performance, power, area) analysis on complex IP and subsystems for high-performance processors and advanced microcontrollers.

Work involves benchmarking IP, running RTL-to-GDS experiments in advanced nodes, and providing technical recommendations to architecture, design, and technology teams to inform SoC implementation choices.

Experience Level

Senior level. The posting specifies BS +8 years or MS +5 years of relevant experience; expect a senior engineer with substantial SoC implementation and EDA flow experience.

Responsibilities

Core responsibilities include evaluation, experimentation, and technical guidance to support SoC implementation decisions.

  • Collaborate with architecture and technology teams to deliver technical studies and recommendations on new IP and technologies.
  • Benchmark processors, accelerator cores, interconnects, DDR systems and other digital IP for PPA tradeoffs.
  • Perform competitive analysis to determine current and future state-of-the-art PPA metrics.
  • Design and execute synthesis and place-and-route experiments using RTL-to-GDS flows for internal and third-party IP evaluation.
  • Evaluate clocking, timing-closure, power reduction, and PDN signoff approaches and work with design teams to integrate solutions.
  • Develop specifications for internal and third-party IP and participate in make-vs-buy decisions and IP selection.

Requirements

Must-have experience and skills required for performing the role effectively.

  • Experience with EDA flows for synthesis and place-and-route.
  • Experience designing or architecting complex SoCs in leading-edge process nodes, with multiple independent compute environments.
  • Proven track record assessing PPA tradeoffs and selecting appropriate balances for product types.
  • Deep knowledge of ARM architecture specifications.
  • Experience defining IP components and coding RTL for digital control blocks.

Nice-to-have:

  • Familiarity with ISO26262 functional safety standard and compliance.

Education Requirements

BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science (typical requirement: 8+ years experience) or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science (typical requirement: 5+ years experience). Knowledge of ISO26262 functional safety standard is listed as a plus.
