Advanced Photonics Manager, Silicon Photonics Platform Engineering
Role Summary
Lead the Advanced Photonics team within the Silicon Photonics Product Line to define and deliver next-generation photonic devices and system architectures aligned to customer and market needs.
Provide technical vision, architectural leadership, and people management for a small senior team; translate industry trends and customer requirements into executable development programs with clear paths to productization.

Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include technical leadership, customer engagement, cross-functional alignment, and people management.
- Define and drive roadmap for advanced photonic devices aligned to business and customer needs.
- Lead architecture and design of photonic building blocks and subsystems.
- Translate system-level requirements into device- and platform-level innovations suitable for industrialization.
- Serve as senior technical authority shaping internal strategy and external positioning.
- Collaborate with customers on next-generation photonic systems; act as technical counterpart to senior customer architects.
- Incorporate customer learnings into device concepts and platform enhancements.
- Partner with internal photonics research (gfLabs), silicon photonics development, and fab/foundry teams to ensure manufacturability, yield, reliability, and scalability.
- Align device design, process technology, packaging, and test activities.
- Track industry trends, standards, and competitive developments; evaluate external innovations for technology insertion.
- Build, lead, and mentor a small elite technical team; provide technical direction, career development, and performance management.
- Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and constructive technical debate.
- Perform work in a safe manner and support Environmental, Health, Safety & Security programs.
Requirements
Must-have technical and leadership qualifications.
- Deep expertise in photonic devices and integrated photonics with strong system-level understanding.
- Demonstrated leadership of senior technical teams (Distinguished/Principal-level engineers or equivalent).
- Experience across device, system, and manufacturing domains in a product-driven environment.
- Proven ability to engage credibly with customers, partners, and executive stakeholders.
- Strong track record of translating advanced technology concepts into product-relevant outcomes on aggressive timelines.
- Ability to work effectively in fast-paced, dynamic environments and to travel as needed.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with AI interconnects and advanced optical systems.
- Experience transitioning research innovations into near-term product opportunities.
Education Requirements
Advanced degree required: PhD strongly preferred in Photonics, Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, or a related field.
