Advanced Photonics Engineer, SiPh Platform Engineering
Role Summary
The Advanced Photonics Engineer will define and drive next-generation silicon photonic device architectures and development programs that align to customer and market needs. The role translates system-level requirements into device- and platform-level designs suitable for rapid industrialization.
This position sits on the Silicon Photonics Product Line's Advanced Photonics team and requires cross-functional collaboration with device design, process technology, packaging, test, and customer development teams.
Experience Level
Senior β senior-level engineering role requiring substantial experience in photonic devices, integrated photonics, and product-driven development.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include technical leadership, customer engagement, and cross-functional coordination to move advanced photonic concepts toward productization.
- Define and drive roadmap for advanced photonic devices and subsystems aligned to business and customer needs.
- Design architectures and building blocks for next-generation photonic systems and translate system requirements into device- and platform-level designs.
- Collaborate with customer development teams and act as a technical counterpart to senior customer architects to influence early system definitions.
- Incorporate customer learnings into device concepts and platform enhancements rapidly.
- Partner with research (gfLabs) and silicon photonics development teams to transition innovations into product opportunities.
- Align designs with manufacturing, yield, reliability, and scalability constraints in collaboration with fab and foundry teams.
- Track industry trends, standards, and competitive developments and evaluate external innovations for technology insertion.
- Mentor and support junior architects and engineers.
- Perform all work in compliance with Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements.

- Track record of translating advanced technology concepts into product-relevant outcomes on aggressive timelines.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and to travel as needed.

- Experience influencing early system architectures for high-speed communications or AI interconnects.
- Prior experience mentoring and leading small engineering teams or architects.
Education Requirements
Advanced degree required; PhD strongly preferred, in Photonics, Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, or a related technical field.
