Advanced Photonics Engineer

Role Summary

Join the Silicon Photonics Product Line to define and deliver next-generation photonic devices and system architectures that meet near-term customer and market needs. This role drives device and subsystem architecture, translates system requirements into manufacturable device concepts, and coordinates across design, process, packaging, and test to accelerate productization.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include technical leadership, customer engagement, cross-functional coordination, and technology scouting to move photonics innovations into products.

  • Define and drive roadmap for advanced photonic devices aligned to business and customer requirements.
  • Specify architecture and design of photonic building blocks and subsystems.
  • Translate system-level requirements into device- and platform-level solutions suitable for industrialization.
  • Collaborate closely with customers and act as a technical counterpart to senior customer architects.
  • Integrate customer learnings into device concepts and platform enhancements.
  • Partner with internal photonics R&D (gfLabs), silicon photonics development, and fab/foundry teams to align designs with manufacturing, yield, reliability, and scalability.
  • Track industry trends, standards, and competitive developments; evaluate and incorporate external innovations.
  • Mentor and support junior architects and engineers.
  • Perform work in accordance with Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements.

Requirements

  • Deep expertise in photonic devices and integrated photonics with system-level awareness.
  • Experience working across device design, system integration, and manufacturing domains in a product-driven environment.
  • Proven ability to translate advanced technology concepts into product-relevant outcomes on aggressive timelines.
  • Credible customer engagement skills with experience interfacing to senior technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and to travel as needed.
  • Nice-to-have: familiarity with AI interconnects, advanced optical systems, and standards relevant to photonics integration.

Education Requirements

Advanced degree preferred: PhD strongly preferred in Photonics, Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, or a related field. (The posting specifies an advanced degree with PhD strongly preferred.)
