2027 Undergrad Software Test Engineering Intern/Co-Op

Role Summary

Intern/co-op position on AMD's software test engineering team supporting GPU/APU software validation across Windows and Linux. The role involves writing and executing test plans, triaging defects, and collaborating with development and project engineering teams.

Full-time (40 hrs/week) internship or co-op terms available in 2027 with onsite or hybrid work structure; multiple term dates available for spring, summer, and fall placements.

Experience Level

Entry-level internship for undergraduate students (undergraduate/co-op). Suitable for candidates with limited professional experience; current enrollment in a university program expected (see Education Requirements).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities during the internship/co-op term:

• Develop and execute automated and manual test plans and test cases (functional, negative, regression, performance, reliability, usability, customer/end-user testing).
• Reproduce, troubleshoot, triage, and document software defects; drive defects to closure with development teams.
• Create test cases for new features, new products (dGPU and APU), and new operating systems (Linux and/or Windows).
• Prioritize and manage multiple concurrent testing tasks and projects.
• Define and track QA metrics and measurements to improve the software QA cycle.
• Collaborate with developers, project engineers, and QA team members to improve processes and test coverage.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and work conditions:

• Programming/scripting experience (examples: Python, C++, VBA) and familiarity with test automation frameworks (e.g., Selenium).
• Understanding of software quality analysis, test methodology, and test lifecycle.
• PC configuration and troubleshooting skills (software and hardware) and interest in platform architecture.
• Exposure to development/triaging/debugging in Windows and/or Linux environments.
• Familiarity with databases and reporting tools for test data and metrics.
• Able to work full-time (40 hours/week) onsite or in a hybrid model for the duration of the assigned term.
• Not eligible for visa sponsorship for this role; candidates must have appropriate work authorization in the United States.

Nice-to-have:

• Interest or experience in PC gaming, 3D graphics concepts, graphics APIs, VR/MR, display technologies (FreeSync/HDR), multimedia, or compute workloads.

Education Requirements

Currently enrolled in a U.S.-based university bachelor's degree program in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline. (This position targets undergraduate students participating in an intern or co-op term.)
