This is a full-time co-op/internship within AMD's compiler and ASIC engineering teams.

Experience Level

Entry-level internship for undergraduate students; no prior professional years required. Position is intended for currently enrolled undergraduates.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Implement and extend compiler components for the P4 language targeting AMD ASIC architectures.
  • Integrate open-source compiler frameworks (e.g., LLVM, P4C) into the build and development pipeline.
  • Collaborate with ASIC design teams and compiler customers to ensure hardware/software alignment.
  • Develop and maintain tests, CI workflows, and tooling for compiler builds.
  • Debug, profile, and improve compiler performance and correctness.
  • Work full-time during the co-op/intern term and follow the team's onsite or hybrid schedule.

Requirements

Minimum qualifications and preferred skills.

  • Proficient in object-oriented programming; strong preference for C++.
  • Coursework or hands-on experience in compilers, programming languages, and data structures.
  • Ability to work effectively on distributed teams and communicate with cross-functional partners.
  • Available to work full-time (40 hours/week) for the specified co-op/internship term and onsite/hybrid in the San Jose / Santa Clara area.
  • This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship; candidates must be authorized to work without sponsorship.
  • Nice-to-have: familiarity with GitHub, CI/CD practices, and open-source compiler tooling.

Education Requirements

Currently enrolled in a U.S.-based university Bachelor's program in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field; undergraduate status required for this position.
