Job Title

Masters Software Test Engineering Intern/Co-Op (2027)

Role Summary

Participate in the software test lifecycle for GPU/APU platforms, working with development and project engineering teams to validate features and drive defects to closure. The role involves both automated and manual testing across functional, regression, performance, reliability and usability domains.

This full-time internship/co-op is performed onsite or in a hybrid schedule at AMD locations in San Jose or Santa Clara, CA.

Experience Level

Entry-level internship for students; intended for master's students. Typical experience: student-level (no specific years required).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include testing, defect triage, and test planning for PC graphics platforms.

  • Develop and execute automated and manual test plans and test cases (functional, negative, regression, performance, reliability, usability).
  • Reproduce, triage, document and drive software defects to closure with development teams.
  • Create test cases for new features, products (dGPU and APU) and operating systems (Linux and/or Windows).
  • Prioritize and manage multiple concurrent testing tasks and projects.
  • Troubleshoot PC software and hardware configurations and support debugging activities.
  • Collect QA metrics, analyze results, and recommend process or tooling improvements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure product quality.

  • Must-have: Programming or scripting experience (Python, C++, VBA) and ability to write test automation or scripts.
  • Must-have: Familiarity with Linux and/or Windows development, triage or debugging workflows.
  • Must-have: Understanding of software quality processes and test methodology; ability to write test plans and test cases.
  • Must-have: Interest in PC platform architecture and troubleshooting software/hardware interactions.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with Selenium or other test automation frameworks; exposure to databases and reporting tools.
  • Nice-to-have: Knowledge of computer graphics concepts, gaming, VR/MR, display technologies (e.g. FreeSync/HDR), multimedia or compute workloads.
  • Other: This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Education Requirements

Posting targets candidates who are currently enrolled in a U.S.-based Master's degree program in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or a related discipline. The broader internship program may also include undergraduate and PhD students, but this specific posting requests master’s students.
