Role Summary

Work on a compiler for the P4 language targeting AMD domain-specific ASICs. The position is part of an engineering team that integrates compiler development with ASIC design and customer requirements.

Full-time (40 hours/week) internship/co-op for a single academic term; work structure is hybrid or onsite depending on the assigned location.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop and extend compiler components for P4 and the target architecture.
  • Work with open-source compiler frameworks (e.g., LLVM, p4c) and follow modern software design practices.
  • Collaborate with ASIC engineers and internal compiler customers to define and implement features.
  • Write, test, and debug compiler code; participate in code reviews and CI/CD workflows.
  • Document design decisions and maintain build/test infrastructure.
  • Receive mentorship from senior engineers and participate in team planning.

Requirements

Minimum technical and eligibility requirements.

  • Proficient in object-oriented programming; strong preference for C++.
  • Coursework or practical experience in compilers, data structures, or programming languages.
  • Ability to work effectively on a distributed team and communicate with cross-functional partners.
  • Available to work full time (40 hours/week) for the duration of the internship/co-op term and able to work onsite or hybrid at an AMD location as assigned.
  • Not eligible for visa sponsorship for this role (candidates must have work authorization for the U.S.).
  • Nice-to-have: familiarity with GitHub, CI/CD, and build/test automation.

Education Requirements

Currently enrolled in a U.S.-based Master's degree program in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
