2026 Fall Materials Engineering Co-op (TCAD Modeling) — Doctorate (Gloucester, MA)

Role Summary

Co-op position within Applied Materials’ VSE strategic marketing group focused on patterning and implant applications for semiconductor fabrication. The role supports implant material processing, wafer processing, metrology, modeling, and process demonstrations.

Hourly pay range: $41–$50 per hour.

Experience Level

Entry-level co-op/internship for doctoral students (PhD candidates). This is a student intern role; no prior professional experience requirement specified beyond relevant lab and modeling skills.

Responsibilities

Primary hands-on and modeling tasks for process development and characterization.

  • Collaborate with implant material processing teams on process demonstrations and experiments.
  • Process and measure wafers; analyze results and document findings.
  • Model and simulate processes (TCAD and other modeling methodologies) and support automation of modeling workflows.
  • Participate in development projects and present updates at group meetings.
  • Support process engineering tasks including procurement, sample shipping, and inventory tracking.
  • Start date: September 2026; must be available to work 6–9 months onsite in Gloucester, MA.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and eligibility for a co-op assignment.

  • Good academic standing; preferred GPA >= 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Hands-on experience with thin film materials characterization techniques (ellipsometry, electrical IV/CV, FTIR, microscopy, mechanical properties testing).
  • Familiarity with modeling methodologies such as finite element methods (FEM), Monte Carlo simulations; experience with modeling automation is a plus.
  • Practical experience with TCAD is highly preferred.
  • Ability to document results clearly and present progress in team settings.
  • Willingness and eligibility to work onsite in Gloucester, MA for the full co-op duration.

Education Requirements

Currently pursuing a Doctoral degree (PhD) in Materials Science & Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related semiconductor field. Student must be in good academic standing; preferred GPA 3.0/4.0 or higher.
