Intel runs its biggest design operation outside the US in Haifa. The Pentium MMX and the Centrino platform were designed there, and the campus still does CPU and server silicon. The talent pipeline is the unusual part. Elite military units, Unit 8200 and the Talpiot program, hand companies engineers who have already shipped hardware under pressure, and the Technion supplies the rest. Add fifty years of Intel investment since its first overseas R&D center opened in Haifa in 1974, and you get a steady supply of senior architects plus the startups they spin out, EZchip, Mellanox, and Habana Labs among them.

The corridor is not the whole story. Haifa holds Intel's largest Israeli campus with the Technion next door. Beer Sheva has grown fast around its university and a cluster of cybersecurity and chip teams. Jerusalem has design work too, Mobileye's headquarters included.
