Job Title

Yield Development Engineer

Role Summary

Identify root-cause yield and reliability limiters, perform failure analysis, and develop methodologies and analytical tools to improve semiconductor process yield and reliability. Work cross-functionally with design, test, and process teams and support new product introductions and design-technology co-optimization.

Experience Level

Mid-level. Typical background per minimum qualifications: Bachelor's degree plus 3+ years relevant experience, or Master's degree plus 2+ years relevant experience.

Responsibilities

Core responsibilities include failure analysis, process debugging, and delivering actionable improvements to manufacturing yield and reliability.

  • Develop and implement methodologies for defect-mode characterization and yield/reliability modeling.
  • Analyze manufacturing and experimental data to identify anomalies and recommend process changes.
  • Perform fault isolation and failure analysis using electrical, optical, and simulation tools.
  • Develop analytical tools, algorithms, and techniques for failure analysis and defect detection.
  • Maintain and support critical analytical equipment and related tasks.
  • Collaborate across design, test, and process development to debug yield limiters and ensure manufacturability.
  • Support new product introductions and design-technology co-optimization activities.

Requirements

Must-have skills and experience; preferred items listed separately.

  • Must-have: Proficiency with statistical data analysis and scripting (e.g., JMP, Python) and experience applying coding to data analysis.
  • Experience in semiconductor process development and defect-mode analysis.
  • Hands-on experience with failure analysis and fault isolation tools and techniques (examples: IRLC, CSAM, SEM, TDR testing, curve tracing).
  • Ability to develop and maintain analytical tools and apply algorithms for defect detection and analysis.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Nice-to-have: Familiarity with advanced imaging (2D/3D X-ray, acoustic imaging), electrical fault isolation methods (EOTPR, ELITE), and sample preparation techniques (laser milling, ion milling, mechanical polishing).

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemistry, Solid-State Physics, or a related field with 3+ years of relevant experience, OR Master's degree in a related field with 2+ years of relevant experience. The posting permits experience obtained via coursework, projects, internships, military training, or work experience. (Position is not eligible for immigration sponsorship.)
