Job Title

WLA Yield Defect Metrology Engineer

Role Summary

Join the Inline Wafer Level Assembly (WLA) team to identify and eliminate yield limiters across process, defect, and electrical domains. The role combines statistical analysis, data engineering, and defect metrology to drive yield improvements and enable product ramp.

The position is embedded in Advanced Packaging / Technology Development and requires regular on-site collaboration with process, design, and test teams.

Experience Level

Mid-level. Typical experience varies by degree: Bachelor's +3 years, Master's +1 year, PhD +6 years (as listed in minimum qualifications).

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Identify root-cause yield limiters and recommend process changes to improve yield.
  • Perform statistical analysis and build visualizations to support process development roadmaps.
  • Consolidate and analyze large, diverse data sources to characterize defect modes and build yield models.
  • Detect data anomalies and drive corrective actions in collaboration with fab and product teams.
  • Apply statistics, machine learning, and coding to extract insights from structured and unstructured data.
  • Translate experimental and manufacturing data into actionable yield improvement steps.
  • Support manufacturability reviews and design–process co-optimization to prevent yield issues before ramp.
  • Participate in new product introductions and design of experiments; contribute to factory task forces.
  • Perform fault isolation and failure analysis using electrical test data, probing, simulation, and layout review.
  • Develop measurement recipes and harden metrology/equipment to meet operational and capability needs.

Requirements

Must-have skills and attributes for initial consideration:

  • Proven experience applying statistics and data analysis to drive yield or process improvement.
  • Hands-on experience with Python for data analysis or automation.
  • Ability to synthesize large datasets and produce clear, actionable insights for technical stakeholders.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills; able to present technical conclusions to line and executive leadership.
  • Willingness and ability to work on-site regularly in Hillsboro, OR to fulfill essential job responsibilities.

Nice-to-have / preferred:

  • Experience with enterprise databases and high-volume data pipelines.
  • 2+ years of Python experience.
  • Knowledge of substrate, assembly, or fab back-end processes and defect reduction methodologies.
  • Prior experience in Defect Reduction, Yield, or Module engineering roles.
  • Experience developing multivariate algorithms and production-ready analysis tools.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree plus 3+ years of relevant experience, or Master's degree plus 1+ year, or PhD plus 6+ years in Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, or other STEM-related discipline. Equivalent practical experience may be considered where stated.
