VLSI & SoC Physical Design Engineer

Role Summary

Join an engineering team developing complex SoCs for satellite and related systems. The role focuses on physical implementation of system-on-chip designs, achieving timing closure, and working closely with RTL and verification teams to deliver tapeout-ready designs.

This is a hands-on engineering position within a multi-disciplinary development team responsible for floorplanning, P&R flows, static timing analysis, and design signoff.

Experience Level

Mid-level. Relevant experience in physical design/SoC implementation is required; specific years not stated.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include delivering physical implementations of SoCs and ensuring design quality through signoff practices.

• Implement SoC/ASIC designs through floorplanning, placement, clock-tree synthesis, routing and signoff.
• Drive timing closure using STA methodologies and identify/fix timing bottlenecks.
• Collaborate with RTL designers to resolve physical-RTL integration issues and constraints.
• Develop and maintain scripts and automation to support P&R flows and ECO cycles.
• Perform design-for-manufacturability checks, LVS/DRC support and prepare deliverables for signoff.
• Debug physical implementation issues and support release/tapeout activities.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience.

• Hands-on physical design experience with P&R flows and signoff processes.
• Proven ability to achieve timing closure on complex SoC blocks.
• Proficiency with scripting for automation (e.g., Python, Tcl, Perl).
• Experience with STA tools and common EDA toolchains (place-and-route, synthesis, CTS, extraction tools).
• Ability to work cross-functionally with RTL, verification and system teams.

Nice-to-have:

• Experience in satellite, aerospace, or communications SoC projects.
• Familiarity with signoff methodologies and paras/IP integration on large chips.

Education Requirements

BSc in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field is specified; equivalent practical experience is acceptable. No specific higher-degree requirement stated.
