VLSI CAD Engineer

Role Summary

Work on the CAD/EDA/HPC team to build and scale compute infrastructure that supports NVIDIA's silicon design flow. Own job scheduler environments, CAD toolchains, automation frameworks, and hybrid cloud integration to maintain design throughput toward tapeout.

Experience Level

Mid-level — 3+ years of relevant experience in VLSI CAD infrastructure, HPC systems, or SRE roles supporting engineering infrastructure.

Responsibilities

The role focuses on operating and improving CAD compute environments, automation, and cloud integration to keep design teams moving efficiently toward tapeout.

• Operate and scale job schedulers and large Linux compute farms using LSF and/or Slurm.
• Manage CAD toolchains, automation frameworks, and operational workflows for design teams.
• Integrate and operate hybrid cloud environments across AWS, Azure, GCP, or OCI to extend on-premises capacity.
• Troubleshoot CAD/EDA software and infrastructure performance; benchmark workloads and improve efficiency.
• Develop automation in Python, Perl, Bash, or Tcl for scheduling, monitoring, capacity reporting, and recurring workflows.
• Partner with design teams on throughput, utilization, and tapeout capacity planning.

Requirements

Required technical skills and experience to perform the role.

Must-have

• 3+ years of hands-on experience in VLSI CAD infrastructure, EDA compute environments, HPC system administration, or SRE supporting engineering infrastructure.
• Strong Linux/Unix administration skills and experience operating large-scale compute farms (LSF and/or Slurm).
• Proficiency in at least one scripting language; Python preferred.
• Practical experience with cloud platforms (GCP, OCI, AWS, or Azure) covering compute, storage, networking, and cost fundamentals.
• Understanding of CAD/EDA flows such as synthesis, place-and-route, simulation, DRC/LVS, or equivalent implementation and verification flows.

Nice-to-have

• Linux performance engineering and benchmarking experience.
• Experience with Docker/Kubernetes, infrastructure-as-code (Ansible, Terraform), distributed file systems, and observability stacks.

Education Requirements

B.E./B.Tech or M.Tech/M.S. in Computer Science, Electronics Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
