Job Title

Veloce Prototyping Application Engineer

Role Summary

Work on FPGA-based ASIC prototyping to enable customer software development and system bring-up using proFPGA platforms. Collaborate with hardware and software teams to integrate boards, debug at board and system level, and support cross-platform development.

Position sits within the Software/Sales engineering organization supporting prototyping engagements, performance optimization, and evaluation reporting for customers in domains such as AI acceleration, 5G, and autonomous driving.

Experience Level

Mid-level. The role requires at least 3 years of FPGA experience.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include prototyping bring-up, integration, optimization, documentation, and exploration of new prototyping methods.

  • Port ASIC RTL to proFPGA platforms and perform FPGA-based prototype bring-up to accelerate customer software development.
  • Collaborate with hardware and software teams for system integration and board-level debugging; support cross-platform development.
  • Optimize FPGA resource utilization and timing to resolve technical bottlenecks.
  • Integrate high-speed interfaces (PCIe, DDR, Ethernet) and low-speed interfaces (I2C, SPI) and softmodels (e.g., SPI‑Flash, eMMC, SD).
  • Prepare engagement plans, evaluation reports, and bring-up summaries to ensure traceability and clear handover.
  • Investigate FPGA applications in AI, 5G, and autonomous driving; propose and implement prototyping methodology improvements.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items noted where applicable.

  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on FPGA experience working on prototype bring-up and FPGA implementation.
  • Proficient in Verilog and/or VHDL and experience with complex logic design.
  • Experience with FPGA toolflows such as Vivado or Quartus, timing constraints (SDC), and simulation/debug tools (e.g., ILA, SignalTap).
  • Knowledge of FPGA prototyping workflows: synthesis, partitioning, and multi-FPGA debugging.
  • Experience integrating high-speed interfaces (PCIe, DDR, Ethernet) and common peripherals (I2C, SPI); familiarity with softmodels.
  • Customer-facing skills: clear oral and written English and analytical problem-solving; customer-oriented mindset.
  • Willingness to travel for system deployment or cross-site collaboration (limited, up to ~25%).
  • Nice-to-have: prototyping experience on Veloce proFPGA, Haps; emulation experience on Veloce Strato, ZEBU, Palladium; experience with VPS, ProtoCompiler, Virtual/TBX.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
