Job Title
Validation/Characterization Engineer
Role Summary
The Validation/Characterization Engineer will develop and execute system-level validation for Mid-Vin Buck power products. The role works hands-on to design validation hardware, create test plans and scripts, perform bench and parametric testing, debug device and setup issues, and collaborate with design, firmware, test and applications teams to close issues.
The engineer supports customer-focused evaluation by building validation boards and environments that mirror customer use cases, and mentors junior engineers on the team.
Experience Level
Mid-level (5+ years relevant experience required; 8+ years preferred)
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include creating validation hardware and plans, executing tests, debugging, and collaborating across teams.
- Design and develop validation boards, schematics and layouts aligned to customer use-cases and scalable test setups.
- Create and document comprehensive validation plans covering hardware, software and instrumentation.
- Define validation strategy and build validation test cases; implement test automation/scripts (e.g., Python, TestStand, LabVIEW).
- Perform system-level and parametric bench testing; bring devices up on the bench and investigate failures with a thorough debug approach.
- Work closely with design and firmware teams to reproduce issues, propose FW-level workarounds, and support fixes.
- Engage with application engineers and customers to troubleshoot device and setup issues and recommend modifications.
- Lead and mentor junior engineers; manage timelines and deliver high-quality results.
Requirements
Must-have and preferred technical qualifications and skills.
Must-have:
- Minimum 5 years of relevant validation, characterization, or hardware engineering experience; 8+ years preferred.
- Demonstrated hardware debugging skills and system-level test experience.
- Experience with schematic capture and PCB layout (Altium) and practical knowledge of signal grounding and routing tradeoffs.
- Experience developing automated test cases and scripting (Python, TestStand, LabVIEW or similar).
- Ability to define validation strategy (HW, SW, instrumentation) and document detailed validation plans.
- Strong time management, communication skills, and ability to work with cross-functional teams and customers.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience validating analog power products and DC-DC converters/inverters.
- Familiarity with simulation and analysis tools (Simplis, MATLAB, PSpice).
- Knowledge of semiconductor power switches (MOSFET, IGBT, SiC MOSFET).
- Experience with physical layout considerations for power designs and high-current packaging.
- Prior experience mentoring engineers or leading small teams.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field is required (as stated in minimum requirements). No alternative degree or "equivalent experience" language specified in the posting.
