Job Title

Transport (RDMA) Silicon Product Architect

Role Summary

Lead the architecture and specification of next-generation transport protocols and networking solutions for large-scale AI, cloud, and HPC datacenter systems. Drive design decisions for RDMA transports, congestion management, reliability, and collective communication to improve cluster performance and application efficiency.

This role works across silicon, firmware, software, system architecture, and industry ecosystems. The position is eligible for Intel's hybrid work model and requires an extended background investigation if hired.

Experience Level

Senior β€” the role expects extensive industry experience (see Education Requirements for degree-linked experience guidance).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include defining transport and fabric architectures and guiding cross-domain delivery.

  • Lead transport protocol architecture: define protocol semantics, reliability mechanisms, and performance targets.
  • Design RDMA and fabric-level solutions addressing scalability, fairness, and operational resiliency.
  • Develop congestion management and flow-control strategies to improve network efficiency and tail behavior.
  • Optimize collective and AI communication patterns to improve throughput and latency for distributed workloads.
  • Collaborate with NIC, switch, firmware, host software, and system teams to produce deployable architectures.
  • Represent technical direction with industry partners and contribute to ecosystem alignment.

Requirements

Required technical skills and experience (must-haves):

  • Deep expertise in transport protocol architecture, including semantics, reliability, congestion management, and flow control.
  • Strong practical experience with RDMA technologies and large-scale deployment challenges.
  • Experience designing or architecting high-performance communication systems spanning hardware, firmware, and software.
  • Proven ability to analyze performance and scalability limitations (latency, throughput, tail performance, packet loss) and drive mitigations.
  • Knowledge of NIC, switch, and host software interactions across the networking stack.
  • Experience translating application and workload requirements into transport and network architecture specifications.
  • Demonstrated leadership working across multiple engineering domains and with external industry partners.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Experience guidance provided by Intel: 12+ years with a Bachelor's, 8+ years with a Master's, or 6+ years with a PhD in networking, distributed systems, datacenter infrastructure, or related domains.
