Job Title

Transistor Reliability and Quality Engineer

Role Summary

Join Intel's Technology Development Quality and Reliability Engineering team to lead reliability and quality activities for advanced transistor technologies. You will work with Process Integration, Device Engineering, Yield, and Product teams to qualify transistor designs from early development through manufacturing readiness.

The role focuses on reliability characterization, modeling, test-structure design, and automation for data analysis to ensure yield, performance, and long-term device reliability.

Experience Level

Mid-level engineer. Typical experience expectations from the posting: ~6+ years with a Bachelor's, ~4+ years with a Master's, or ~2+ years with a Ph.D.

Responsibilities

Core responsibilities include reliability characterization, model development, test-structure design, and data analysis automation.

  • Plan and drive transistor reliability characterization and certification (HCI, NBTI/PBTI, TDDB, etc.).
  • Collaborate with process integration and device engineering to ensure manufacturable technology meeting yield, performance, and reliability targets.
  • Develop FMEA for novel transistor structures and materials and define reliability monitors/early-warning indicators.
  • Develop physics-based and empirical reliability models, including lifetime prediction and statistical distribution modeling (Weibull, lognormal).
  • Create SPICE-compatible reliability models to support circuit design enablement.
  • Design reliability test structures and test-chip layouts to enable systematic characterization and early detection of risks.
  • Work with layout and design teams to tape-in test structures and influence design-for-reliability.
  • Develop and improve automation frameworks for large-scale data analysis across multi-variable process modulators.
  • Drive continuous improvement in reliability methodologies, test structures, and characterization techniques.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred items listed separately.

  • Hands-on experience in semiconductor device fabrication, process characterization, and experimental design.
  • Proficiency in statistical analysis and data interpretation using tools such as JMP, R, SAS, or Python.
  • Strong technical background in semiconductor device physics and reliability mechanisms.
  • Familiarity with process integration and technology development workflows.
  • Experience designing reliability test structures and enabling systematic characterization.
  • Experience developing reliability models and implementing data-analysis automation pipelines.
  • Strong collaboration and cross-functional communication skills.
  • Nice-to-have: experience with reliability engineering frameworks and technology qualification, advanced CMOS integration reliability (HTOL, ELFR, TDDB), statistical quality systems and process capability analysis, defect reliability modeling, machine learning/data analytics for engineering, failure analysis and physical characterization techniques, and scripting/automation with SQL and Python.

Education Requirements

Posting requires one of the following: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or a related field with 6+ years industry experience; OR Master's degree in those fields with 4+ years experience; OR Ph.D. in those fields with 2+ years experience. Related technical fields or equivalent practical experience are acceptable as described in the posting.
