Job Title
Test Engineer, Electromagnetic Simulation Tools
Role Summary
Validate and verify electromagnetic simulation and analysis software used for RF, antenna, and high-speed electronic design. Work within the Electronics, Semiconductor and Optics Business Unit alongside developers and verification engineers to ensure functional correctness, performance, and accuracy of simulation tools.
Experience Level
Mid-level. Expectation: typically 1β3+ years of relevant engineering or software testing experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities focus on test design, automation, and release validation for electromagnetic simulation tools.
- Design and execute test strategies covering functionality, performance, and numerical accuracy.
- Develop automated test frameworks and scripts in Python that run on Windows, Linux, and cloud/distributed compute environments.
- Validate new features and enhancements in electromagnetic simulation products and verify they meet engineering specifications.
- Create detailed test plans, document results, and manage defect tracking through resolution.
- Work with developers to reproduce issues, clarify requirements, and verify fixes prior to release.
- Run regression suites, performance benchmarks, and application-level tests to ensure stability across updates.
- Assess release readiness using test coverage, defect status, and quality metrics.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and practical experience for day-one contribution.
- Solid foundation in high-frequency electronics: RF/microwave design, antennas, signal integrity, or EMC.
- Proficient in Python for automation, scripting, and data processing.
- Experience with software testing practices: regression, functional validation, and performance analysis.
- Comfort working across Windows and Linux, virtual environments, compute clusters, and cloud platforms.
- Experience with engineering software (EDA/CAE) and developing maintainable automated test suites.
- Proven ability to translate bug reports into reproducible test cases and actionable developer feedback.
Nice-to-have:
- Familiarity with Ansys HFSS or similar electromagnetic simulation tools.
- Experience with distributed compute orchestration and large-data workflows.
- Background in performance benchmarking of simulation applications.
Education Requirements
BS in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline with 3+ years of relevant experience, or MS with 1+ year of relevant experience.
