Technology Development Engineer Intern, Silicon Photonics (Jan–Jun 2027)
Role Summary
Work with a Silicon Photonics Technology Development (TD) engineer to support process development: prepare process-flow documentation, fabricate and integrate process steps, and analyze inline, electrical, and optical test data. The role is part of the TD team at GLOBALFOUNDRIES Singapore and receives one-on-one mentorship from TD engineers.
This is a credit-bearing, full-time internship focused on practical training in silicon photonics process integration and device testing.
Experience Level
Entry-level (Internship) — intended for current undergraduate or graduate students with limited industry experience.
Responsibilities
Typical responsibilities under guidance of TD engineers:
- Prepare process flow documentation and follow operating instructions for process development.
- Fabricate and integrate silicon photonics process steps according to process documentation.
- Collect, summarize, and analyze inline (thickness, CD), electrical, and optical test data.
- Collaborate with project team members to verify device performance and ensure specifications are met.
- Support Environmental, Health, Safety & Security (EHS) requirements while performing lab and fab work.
- Perform other duties as assigned related to project goals and timelines.
Requirements
Minimum expectations for candidates:
- Currently in good academic standing.
- Able to work at least 40 hours per week for the internship period.
- Available for a 16–24 week credit-bearing internship commencing January 2027.
- Legal authorization to work in Singapore if required (information not specified).

- Prior related internship or co-op experience.
- Leadership experience in projects, competitions, or teams.
- Project management skills and ability to navigate ambiguity.
- Interest in using AI tools and emerging technologies to improve productivity.
- Strong self-motivation and interest in silicon photonics technology.
Education Requirements
Actively pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering (Optical, Electrical, Semiconductor) or a related technical field from an accredited program. Candidate must be a current student during the internship and in good academic standing.
