System Software Engineer
Role Summary
Develop and maintain Linux-based system software and distributions for Ambarella’s AI vision processors. The role focuses on system component development, cross-compilation, repository maintenance and tooling within the system software team.
Ambarella builds AI vision processors for edge applications such as cameras, drones, and automotive systems.
Experience Level
Mid-level. The role expects 3–5 years of relevant experience or equivalent (see Education Requirements).
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include development, maintenance and tooling for Linux-based system software:
- R&D and maintenance of major system components within Linux distributions
- Cross-compilation and build-system tasks
- Maintain software repositories and package management workflows
- Develop tools to support development, integration, and automation
- Linux driver development and maintenance
Requirements
Key qualifications and skills required:
- Strong programming skills
- Strong learning ability and initiative
- Deep understanding of open-source software and community practices
- Proficiency in a Linux desktop environment
- Familiarity with package management (DEB/RPM)
- Experience with Linux driver development
Education Requirements
Master’s degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering preferred; or 3–5 years of relevant industry experience accepted as an alternative (equivalent practical experience allowed). Fields referenced: Computer Science, Electrical Engineering.
