Staff SSD Systems Design Engineer

Role Summary

This role sits at the center of SSD system design and verification, responsible for delivering reliable, high-performance SSD products through system-level characterization and cross-domain debugging.

Full-time, onsite position based in Longmont, CO. The role requires collaboration with firmware, hardware, manufacturing, and customer teams.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include system-level debugging, characterization, validation, and design support.

  • Debug and resolve complex issues across firmware, hardware, and system domains.
  • Perform performance, power, thermal, and reliability characterization and analysis.
  • Develop and apply test and characterization methodologies and debug procedures.
  • Ensure products meet defined performance, reliability, and compliance requirements.
  • Support DFMEA and design review activities.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering, manufacturing, and customer teams.

Requirements

  • Must-have: Strong understanding of PCIe and NVMe protocols and system behavior.
  • Must-have: Knowledge of SSD architecture including FTL, NAND management, and controller interaction.
  • Must-have: Experience with lab tools such as oscilloscopes, protocol analyzers, and hardware debug platforms.
  • Must-have: Demonstrated use of AI-assisted tools for debugging, automation, or technical analysis.
  • Preferred: Experience with SSD development, firmware interaction, or system validation.
  • Preferred: Proficiency in Python, C++, Bash, or similar scripting languages.
  • Preferred: Experience with power and thermal characterization techniques.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with tools such as JIRA and Confluence.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field is required or equivalent practical experience; a Master’s degree in these fields is preferred.
