Job Title
Staff Silicon Power & Performance Engineer (System Level Test & Characterization)
Role Summary
Lead system-level post-silicon power, performance and thermal characterization across Arm silicon platforms. Plan and execute characterization campaigns, build automation and telemetry infrastructure, and partner with SoC architects, firmware and validation teams to identify and resolve silicon issues.
Experience Level
Senior β typically 8+ years of post-silicon characterization or validation experience.
Responsibilities
Deliver system-level silicon characterization and operationalize data and tooling for repeated use across projects.
- Plan and execute silicon PVTF characterization across multiple projects and platforms.
- Develop scalable automation frameworks, regression infrastructure, data collection flows, dashboards, and reporting tools.
- Measure and analyze leakage/static, active-idle, dynamic, and boot power to locate bottlenecks and optimization opportunities.
- Characterize voltage droop and loadline impedance.
- Enable and port industry-standard, customer, and stress workloads required for silicon characterization.
- Collaborate with SoC architecture, firmware, validation, and systems teams to debug and resolve silicon issues.
Requirements
Core technical skills and hands-on experience required; preferred skills listed separately.
Must-have:
- 8+ years of post-silicon characterization or validation experience.
- Experience characterizing SoC IPs such as CPU, interconnect, DDR, PCIe, UCIe, or high-speed I/O subsystems.
- Hands-on use of lab equipment: oscilloscopes, DAQ systems, thermal chambers, power analyzers, and control units/devices.
- Understanding of power and performance optimization techniques and power delivery components (VRMs, PMICs, voltage rails, PDN).
- Experience with benchmarking and profiling tools (for example: SPEC2017, LMBench, Stress-ng, Fio, iPerf) and analysis of large instrumentation/telemetry datasets.
- Experience working with firmware, bootloader, UEFI/BIOS, ACPI, or device tree flows.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience performing VMIN analysis, pre-silicon modeling/simulation/emulation or FPGA platforms.
- Scripting in Python, Shell, Perl and systems programming in C/C++.
- Experience in silicon bring-up, board enablement, and validation of power management features (DVFS, AVS, thermal throttling).
- Familiarity with Arm architecture, SoC architecture and platform power/performance trade-offs.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in science or engineering required; master's degree preferred.
