Job Title

Staff Product Applications Engineer - Sensor Fusion/GNSS

Role Summary

Senior applications engineer supporting evaluation, integration, and optimization of inertial sensing and navigation technologies. The role combines system-level navigation and sensor-fusion expertise with hands-on hardware and software work to accelerate customer design-in of ADI inertial MEMS products.

Works cross-functionally with customers, field teams, product, design, test, software, systems, and marketing to translate customer requirements into product, tool, and documentation deliverables.

Experience Level

Senior-level. Typically requires 5 or more years of relevant experience in product applications, systems engineering, inertial sensing, navigation, robotics, aerospace, autonomous systems, or semiconductor products.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include customer-facing technical leadership, system characterization, and creating reference materials and tools to support product adoption.

  • Act as senior technical expert for inertial sensing and navigation; guide customers through product discovery, evaluation, integration, troubleshooting, and optimization.
  • Develop and maintain data sheets, application notes, user guides, reference designs, evaluation platforms, software tools, and other technical collateral.
  • Lead laboratory analysis and system-level characterization of IMUs, gyroscopes, accelerometers, and navigation solutions using bench equipment and representative test environments.
  • Support customer architectures combining inertial sensors with GNSS and other aiding sensors for attitude, position, velocity, heading, and timing estimation.
  • Develop or adapt models, algorithms, simulations, and analysis tools to demonstrate performance and robustness of sensor-fusion and state-estimation solutions.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to identify, reproduce, simulate, and resolve hardware, software, and system-integration issues during evaluation and design-in.
  • Translate customer use cases and system constraints into actionable recommendations for products, platforms, reference solutions, and tools.
  • Lead demonstrations, proof-of-concept activities, design reviews, and escalate key technical risks as needed.
  • Provide technical training and mentoring to field engineers, partners, customers, and junior engineers; contribute to scalable knowledge resources.
  • Participate in customer calls and visits; travel approximately 10–15% of the time.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience required to perform the role.

  • Typically 5 or more years of relevant industry experience in product applications, systems engineering, inertial sensing, navigation, robotics, aerospace, autonomous systems, or related fields.
  • Strong electronic component and system background, including development, applications support, or product engineering for semiconductor devices, electronic modules, or embedded systems.
  • Hands-on experience evaluating and troubleshooting hardware using oscilloscopes, power supplies, logic analyzers, and similar laboratory equipment.
  • Strong understanding of inertial sensors (gyroscopes, accelerometers, IMUs), sensor error sources, calibration, and system-level performance tradeoffs.
  • Experience with MATLAB, Python, C/C++, or comparable environments for data analysis, modeling, simulation, test automation, or embedded implementation.
  • Proven initiative and ability to define, investigate, and solve difficult technical problems with limited direction.
  • Ability to lead technical discussions across customers and cross-functional teams and communicate complex concepts clearly in English.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with inertial navigation systems, AHRS, dead reckoning, or PNT applications.
  • Experience implementing or analyzing Kalman filters, EKF, UKF, or related estimation techniques.
  • Experience with GNSS/INS fusion (loosely/tightly coupled), GNSS receivers, antennas, and advanced GNSS techniques (RTK, PPP, carrier-phase).
  • Familiarity with timing/synchronization interfaces (PPS, PTP) and real-time system integration.
  • Experience integrating sensors and navigation algorithms into robotics, UAVs, autonomous vehicles, gimbals, or industrial motion platforms.
  • Embedded or production-quality C++ software development for sensor fusion or navigation systems.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline.

Compensation and Benefits

The expected salary range for a new hire into this position is $131,285 to $190,108 (annual). This position also qualifies for a discretionary performance-based bonus and includes medical, vision, dental, 401(k), paid vacation, holidays, and sick time.

Other

Export licensing review may be required for certain applicants. Analog Devices is an equal opportunity employer.
