Staff Firmware Engineer (MCU)
Role Summary
Develop and maintain embedded firmware for MCU-based power-management and control modules at the Taipei (Wugu) site. Work with hardware, validation, manufacturing and customer teams to bring up boards, validate hardware, and resolve system-level issues.
Experience Level
Senior-level. Minimum of 8 years of relevant firmware or embedded systems experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include firmware development, hardware bring-up, and cross-team technical support.
- Design, develop, and maintain embedded firmware for PMI (Power Management Interface) and communication MCU platforms.
- Implement bootloaders, peripheral drivers, middleware, and application code for ARM Cortex-M microcontrollers.
- Perform board bring-up, hardware validation, and firmware debugging on custom embedded systems.
- Develop telemetry, monitoring, control, and fault-management functions for power modules.
- Design and validate firmware update mechanisms, including bootloader and UDS-based solutions.
- Debug hardware-software integration issues using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, protocol analyzers, and CAN analyzers.
- Create test tools and automation scripts to improve firmware validation efficiency.
- Participate in technical reviews and contribute to system architecture and design discussions.
- Collaborate with hardware, validation, manufacturing, and customer engineering teams to investigate and resolve technical issues.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience.
- 8+ years of relevant experience in consumer PC, industrial PC, laptops, RISC architecture, networking, or related products.
- Proven experience developing firmware for ARM Cortex-M microcontrollers (bootloaders, drivers, middleware, application layer).
- Experience with board bring-up, hardware validation, and embedded-system debugging.
- Knowledge of firmware update mechanisms and UDS-based update flows.
- Experience debugging interfaces and buses (CAN, UART, I2C, SPI) and using lab instruments (oscilloscope, logic analyzer).
- Ability to develop test tools and automation to support firmware validation.
- Strong communication skills, self-motivation, and ability to navigate ambiguity.
- Preferred: experience with OCP ORV3 rack architectures.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field is required; Master's degree preferred.
