Job Title
Staff Engineer, SSD Validation
Role Summary
As Staff Engineer for SSD Validation, you will lead validation, system integration, and joint qualification for Enterprise and Datacenter NVMe SSD products. You will coordinate cross-functional teams (firmware, hardware, product engineering, manufacturing, and customer engineering) to ensure products are validated and ready for production on internal and customer platforms.
Primary duties include directing validation strategy, driving automation and shift-left testing, mentoring engineers, and supporting customer joint qualification (JQ) activities.
Experience Level
Senior-level. The posting specifies a minimum of 5+ years of relevant SSD, storage, or semiconductor validation experience.
Responsibilities
The role's main responsibilities include:
- Lead system-level validation and end-to-end testing across SSDs, firmware, drivers, OS, networking, and platform configurations.
- Define and execute validation test plans; perform failure analysis, reporting, and coordinate with customer joint qualification requirements.
- Perform hands-on system bring-up, debug, OS installation, driver validation, and storage-stack verification.
- Reproduce and triage customer and partner issues; convert field/JQ findings into internal test cases to improve validation coverage.
- Develop and maintain automated test frameworks and Python-based tools; promote automation and early quality improvements.
Requirements
Must-have:
- 5+ years of experience in SSD, storage, or semiconductor validation with deep knowledge of NVMe and PCIe protocols.
- Hands-on expertise with Linux environments, system setup, OS bring-up, drive triage, and root-cause analysis of complex issues.
- Proven experience in Enterprise/Datacenter SSD firmware validation, including system-level joint qualification.
- Proficiency in Python for automation and data analysis; strong communication skills for conveying technical results to internal and external partners.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience leading or assisting customer joint qualification (JQ) efforts with OEMs, hyperscalers, or strategic partners.
- Familiarity with networked storage environments, platform interoperability, and multi-system qualification flows.
- Hands-on experience with protocol analyzers (e.g., LeCroy, JDSU) and third-party SSD test platforms (e.g., UNH-IOL, PCI-SIG compliance, SanBlaze).
- Strong understanding of PCIe topology, BIOS/firmware behavior, Linux storage stacks and drivers; knowledge of NAND flash, storage architecture, and FTL development.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field (as stated in the posting).
