Staff Engineer - R&D Engineering

As a Staff Engineer in R&D Engineering at Synopsys, you will be responsible for driving innovations in chip design simulations. You will engage in the development of GPU/CPU optimizations and distributed-computing solutions for advanced semiconductor technologies.
Experience Level
Senior, with a PhD or MS in Applied Mathematics or a closely related field and a minimum of 3 years of experience in developing large, complex engineering software.
Responsibilities
Your main responsibilities will include:
- Designing and implementing GPU/CPU performance optimizations for large-scale TCAD simulations.
- Developing distributed-computing solutions for efficient simulation of complex nanoscale devices.
- Applying machine learning models to semiconductor simulation challenges.
- Performing numerical analysis to enhance simulation accuracy and speed.
- Collaborating with Application Engineering and cross-functional teams.
- Contributing to the improvement of the Sentaurus product line.
- Engaging in code reviews and technical discussions within the R&D culture.
Requirements
You should possess the following skills:
- PhD or MS in Applied Mathematics or a related field.
- 3+ years experience in large, complex engineering software development.
- Strong background in numerical methods, high-performance computing, and parallel programming (MPI, TBB, OpenMP).
- Proficiency in C++, CUDA, and Python.
- Experience with machine learning in an engineering context.
- Expertise in numerical analysis involving strongly coupled PDE systems.
- Preferred experience in applied physics or electrical/mechanical engineering.
Education Requirements
A PhD or MS in Applied Mathematics or a closely related field is required.
