Staff Electrical Failure Analysis Engineer - Storage Systems
Role Summary
Lead failure analysis of customer-returned SSDs to identify electrical and physical root causes, manage RMA cases, and deliver actionable technical reports. Work within the QRA RMA team and coordinate with hardware, firmware, validation, and customer-facing teams to resolve issues and improve product reliability.
Experience Level
Senior level. Typical experience expectation: 5+ years (or typically 7+ years if holding only a Bachelor's degree).
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include hands-on diagnostics, cross-team collaboration, and technical leadership of RMA investigations.
- Perform in-depth electrical diagnostics using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, power measurement tools, and board-level probing to isolate component failures.
- Perform electrical and mechanical failure analysis on returned SSDs, including repair and rework where appropriate.
- Collaborate with hardware design, firmware, and validation teams to reproduce anomalies and recommend corrective design or process changes.
- Set up and manage debug systems for design-of-experiments (DOE) and error replication.
- Generate, review, and communicate comprehensive failure analysis reports to internal teams and customers.
- Lead customer-facing technical interactions for RMA cases and ensure timely resolution and status updates.
- Provide technical consultation to customer-facing teams and mentor early-career engineers.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience required to perform the role.
- 5+ years of relevant engineering experience (role lists 5+ years; note degree-related experience guidance in Education Requirements).
- Hands-on expertise with electrical debugging tools and board/component-level failure analysis, including repair and rework.
- Strong knowledge of signal integrity, power delivery, and component-level failure mechanisms in high-speed SSD/NAND systems.
- Ability to read and interpret schematics and perform board-level analysis.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and written/verbal communication skills.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience in the storage industry and in customer-facing technical roles.
- Familiarity with PCIe, SATA, and bus tracing tools for system debugging.
- Project coordination and time-management skills; willingness to work flexible hours and travel as needed.
- Comfort using AI tools to improve efficiency.
Education Requirements
