Job Title
Staff - ASIC Physical Design Engineer
Role Summary
Work on physical implementation of processors, controller architectures and ASICs for Micron's Enterprise SSD Group. The role focuses on block-level physical design and full APR flow activities to achieve PPA and timing closure for advanced-node designs.
Collaborate with architects, RTL designers and verification teams to deliver tape-out quality blocks and resolve physical verification and IR/EM issues.
Experience Level
Senior — minimum of 8 years of hands-on physical design implementation experience.
Responsibilities
The engineer will execute block-level physical design tasks and support APR flow development and timing/IR closure.
- Perform low-power aware floorplanning, placement, clock tree synthesis, routing and RC extraction at block level.
- Drive static timing analysis (STA) and timing closure for blocks.
- Develop and maintain APR/placement-and-route flows and perform PPA analysis.
- Perform physical verification closure (DRC/LVS/Antenna) and work with Calibre or equivalent tools.
- Analyze and resolve IR/EM issues within blocks.
- Coordinate tape-out activities and ensure design sign-off readiness.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and document design decisions and results.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, tools experience, and professional attributes.
- Minimum 8 years hands-on physical design implementation experience including APR flow development and PPA analysis.
- Proven ability to close STA at block level.
- Experience with advanced process nodes; 5nm/3nm preferred.
- Hands-on experience with Cadence physical implementation tools (e.g., Innovus, Tempus).
- Experience in physical verification closure using Calibre or equivalent tools.
- Experience resolving IR/EM issues within blocks.
- Strong fundamentals in digital electronics and microprocessor architectures.
- Analytical problem-solving skills, strong ownership and time-management.
- English proficiency and good collaboration and interpersonal skills.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with formal verification and additional Cadence PnR tool expertise.
- Strong verbal communication skills.
