Staff Applications Engineer (Backend)
Role Summary
The Staff Applications Engineer will work closely with customers and internal teams to deploy and optimize Synopsys backend implementation solutions, focusing on enhancing performance, power, and area (PPA) outcomes. This role is centered around advanced technology nodes in a collaborative Applications Engineering team.
Experience Level
Mid-level, with at least 5 years of relevant experience.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
- Drive customer success on RTL-to-GDSII implementation flows with focus on PPA (performance, power, area).
- Own and lead technical execution on physical synthesis, timing closure, CTS, and routing.
- Troubleshoot complex design/tool issues, and drive resolutions with R&D.
- Standardize methodologies and automate workflows using Tcl and Python.
- Deliver technical trainings, best practices, and customer-facing presentations.
- Collaborate with R&D and cross-functional teams to influence product features and improve quality.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experiences include:
- BS/MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with RTL-to-GDSII and backend implementation.
- Familiarity with P&R tools such as Fusion Compiler or IC Compiler II.
- Understanding of timing analysis, CTS, and routing for advanced nodes.
- Scripting skills in Tcl and Python.
- Strong communication skills in English for collaboration with global teams.
Education Requirements
Requires a BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
