Silicon Photonics Design Engineer - Biophotonics
Role Summary
The Photonics Design Engineer will be responsible for developing integrated photonic devices aimed at breakthrough sensing applications in Apple products. Working within an optical science team, the role involves collaborating with a multi-disciplinary group to demonstrate new photonic components and sensor concepts.
Experience Level
Mid-level, ideally with 3+ years of relevant industry experience.
Responsibilities
The key responsibilities include:
- Design, simulation, and characterization of silicon photonic components.
- Collaborate with the team to demonstrate new photonic components.
- Work on enabling the next generation of photonic integrated circuits.
Requirements
The following qualifications are required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Optics, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent fields.
- Experience with simulation and modeling of photonic components.
- Strong programming skills with proficiency in Python, Matlab, JMP or similar for statistical data analysis.
Preferred qualifications include:
- Master’s or PhD degree in Physics, Optics, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent fields.
- Deep understanding of optoelectronics, photonics, and semiconductor devices.
- Extensive experience in design and modeling of passive and active components on SOI platforms.
- Experience in circuit simulation, high order mode mitigation, or polarization management.
- Good understanding of optical measurement techniques and hands-on experience in device characterization.
Education Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Optics, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent fields is required. Master’s or PhD is preferred.
