Job Title
Sr. Principal Signal Integrity Engineer
Role Summary
Lead signal-integrity (SI) analysis and design effort for high-speed interfaces across ASIC/SoC packages, PCBs, and system interconnects. Work with architecture, package, board, and validation teams to define SI requirements, perform simulations and measurements, and drive design decisions to meet signal- and power-integrity targets.
Experience Level
Senior-level / Principal engineer. Senior individual contributor with leadership responsibilities; typically 8+ years of relevant industry experience (exact years not specified in source).
Responsibilities
Primary technical and cross-team responsibilities for this role include:
- Define SI requirements and verification plans for high-speed SerDes, DDR, PCIe, and similar interfaces.
- Perform SI/PI simulations (time-domain and frequency-domain) for package, board, and cable channels; model extraction and channel characterization.
- Develop and validate signal and power integrity models; create IBIS/IBIS‑AM, S-parameter, and equivalent circuit models as needed.
- Run lab measurements (TDR/TDT, VNA, eye diagrams, BER testing) and correlate results with simulation data.
- Provide design recommendations to meet timing margins, jitter, crosstalk, and channel loss budgets; drive design trade-offs with architects and hardware teams.
- Mentor and guide junior SI engineers; lead design reviews and contribute to cross-functional engineering processes and documentation.
Requirements
Essential technical skills and experience expected for the role. Education items (degrees, fields) are summarized separately below.
- Proven track record in signal-integrity analysis for high-speed digital interfaces (SerDes, DDR, PCIe or equivalent).
- Hands-on experience with SI/EM/PI tools and workflows (e.g., S-parameter extraction, time-domain simulators, IBIS/IBIS‑AM workflows).
- Experience with measurement equipment and techniques: TDR/TDT, VNA, scope-based eye/BER testing, and channel characterization.
- Ability to create and validate channel models and to correlate measurement data with simulations.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to communicate technical results to architects, package/board designers, and validation teams.
- Nice-to-have: experience with package/board co-design, power-integrity analysis, signal-reference plane management, or high-volume product development.
Education Requirements
Not specified.
